Alpujarras - Mojácar

Lake Conde - Garganta del Chorro
Lake Conde - Garganta del Chorro
Today we keep going to the east. We drive along the lakes having a beautiful color and then turn on a winding road leading to the canyon Garganta del Chorro. On the opposite side of the canyon we see old tunnels that were probably once used for railroad. We get out of the canyon and descend to the sea. We drive on the outskirts of Málaga and drive further east. As we're getting hungry we decide to descend to the city of Nerja on the sea coast. Nerja is one of many mass-tourist destinations on this part of Spanish coast. We eat paella, the well-known rice-based Spanish food. Paella was a disaster - the taste was bad and the price high. Near Salobrena we turn to the road to Granada, but before Granada turn again to a secondary road leading over the southern slope of Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Mojácar
Mojácar
This region is called Alpujarras and the road is taking us through numerous small villages, all with white houses. In one of them we stop to eat an ice-cream. We advance very slowly on this narrow winding road. Everywhere around us there are numerous cactuses and big rocks. As the sun is about to go down and we passed only a half of Alpujarras road, we decide to take direction of Berja to reach the coast. While approaching the coast we observe numerous installations for growing fruits and vegetables (coast also known as Costa de la plastica!). We stop to dine in Almería. After the dinner it's time to look for a hotel. We decide to go all the way to Mojácar, because there is a parador there. At the parador we get a big room with a nice garden in front. We enjoy at the terrace drinking the beer...
